I have started this site with postings from my trip to Athens in August 2012 – my impressions on first arrival, snapshot experiences of places and people and my meeting with an employee in their finance ministry.

Current Plans

My current thinking is to take another short trip before the end of the year, this time to the city of Granada in Southern Spain. I have never been there, but have bee captivated by the name, “Alhambra”, which I think I first encountered in National Geographic, when I was a youngster. I plan to travel by coach or train through France and Spain – my friend Macarena who knows the roads of Spain rather well reckons the coach would be nuts, but I reckon it would allow me wider walkabout opportunities while I am there – we shall see. But if you fancy meeting up, I expect to be in Granada itself in late November. Watch this space or send me an email to get an update on when and where to meet.

The Wish List

The world is such a fascinating place and the UK is full of places for short trips, but assuming the money holds up and the world stays much the same, here is a short(ish) list of further-away places I want to get to over the next 12 to 18 months –

• Cairo (always wanted to go there)
• Athens (a feeling of unfinished business)
• Southern India
• New Zealand
• Australia
• California, USA
• Toronto and Nova Scotia, Canada

I know that it looks rather like a world tour, but that is not the intention. At least, not yet.
